Course Introduction

 

SSI International conducts research on alcoholic beverages with a main focus on methods of providing Japanese alcoholic beverages, Sake and Shochu, to the world. Through educational campaigns, we aim to diffuse and expand Japanese sake and food culture internationally and to support, inherit, and develop relevant industries.

Aiming at nurturing human resources capable of promoting adequate knowledge of Japanese alcoholic beverages to consumers of various countries, we implement qualification tests and certify those who meet our standards as INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI (SAKE SOMMELIER/SOMMELIERE).

  • People who struggle with the Japanese language but would love to learn about sake in another language

     

    International Kikisakeshi Course Introduction

    Established in 1991, Kikisakeshi course is the professional certification for Japanese sake service providers and salesperson, now there are more than 40,000 people holding this qualification.

    International Kikisakeshi course was set up in 2012, available in English, Korean, French and Chinese, it provides professional training for Japanese sake service providers, salesperson and sake enthusiasts outside Japan.

    Our academy started this course in 2014, we are the first organisation to provide this course in Hong Kong.

     

    International Kikisake-shi certification is suitable for the following individuals:

    People who promote and sell sake, People who would like to learn about sake but do not speak the language, all sake enthusiasts, etc.

     

    The 7 requirements & characteristics of International Kikisake-shi:

    1. Insightfulness: The skill to see through consumer’s needs.
    2. Love for hospitality: Hospitality towards customers.
    3. Knowledge of the product’s characteristics: Thorough knowledge of sake as well as other food and beverages.
    4. Understanding the true meaning of eating and drinking: The knowledge of the effects food and beverages have on the body.
    5. Expertise in sake: International Kikisakeshi should have more knowledge than consumers regarding sake.
    6. Skills and techniques: Sake tasting skills and service techniques.
    7. Ability to make proposals: The ability to make plans and proposals for consumers using a language other than Japanese with the above qualities.
